INTRODUCTION

A nurse aide is one who has successfully completed an approved certification training program including a written and/or manual skills test and who has received a certificate by the state. Nurse Aides are entry-level providers of patient care and help with the routine care and treatment of the sick, disabled, elderly and terminally-ill patients under the supervision of Nurses in nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, hospitals, hospice and home health agencies.

The Job of the Nurse Aide

• Helping patients with personal, physical, and emotional needs including eating, bathing and grooming.
• Helping patients with their mobility needs and attending to their psychological and social needs.
• Ensuring a clean and safe environment for the patients.
• Assisting the nurse with assessment and care planning including taking vital signs, recording observations and providing support services.

MISSION, GOALS, AND OBJECTIVES

• To train students to acquire competent skills, abilities and experience in Nursing and Home health aid procedures and laboratory techniques.
• To prepare students to take the state competency test and to become Certified Nurse Aides.
• To prepare students who are qualified to assume entry level positions in Hospital Chronic Care settings and Home Health Aide Agencies.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

• Student must be at least 18 years of age
• Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
